Executive Board Job Descriptions

President shall:

  • Preside at all meetings of the Association, the Representative Council, Executive Board, and Executive Committee.
  • Prepare the agenda for the meetings of the Association, the Representative Council, Executive Board.
  • Be the official spokesperson for the Association.
  • Be familiar with the governance documents of SRTA, CTA, and NEA.
  • Appoint all chairpersons and members of committees, and including the bargaining team, with the approval of the Executive Board.
  • Call meetings of the Association, the Executive Board and Executive Committee.
  • Propose the procedures for grievance processing for ratification by the Executive Board and the Active membership of the Association.
  • Suggest policies, plans and activities for the Association and be held responsible for the progress and work of the Association.
  • Attend meetings of the Service Center Council of which the Association is a part.
  • Attend other CTA/NEA meetings as directed by the Representative Council.
  • Be authorized to co-sign all checks, with the Treasurer or Vice President, drawn upon the treasury.
  • Attend all School Board meetings, or delegate this task.
  • Serve no more than two consecutive (2) terms in this position.​

Vice-President shall:

  • Attend all meetings of the Representative Council, Executive Board, and Executive Committee.
  • Serve as assistant to the President in all duties of the President.
  • Assume the duties of the President in the absence of the President.
  • Be responsible for the formation and distribution of the Association's calendar of activities.
  • Serve as the Organizing Committee Chair as well as coordinator of committee activities at the direction of the President.
  • Oversee the organizing of the SRTA End-of-the-Year Event and the Student Awards Ceremony.
  • Be authorized to co-sign checks, with the Treasurer, drawn upon the treasury.

Secretary shall:

  • Attend all meetings of the Representative Council, Executive Board, and Executive Committee.
  • Keep a careful and accurate record of the proceedings of each meeting, regular or special, of the Association, Representative Council, the Executive Board, and keep records of all decisions made at Executive Committee.
  • Be responsible for the distribution of minutes in a timely manner, notice of meetings, and agendas for all meetings to members of the Representative Council and Executive Board; and to the membership when appropriate.
  • Keep an accurate Executive Board Directory and roster of all committees.
  • Carry on the correspondence pertaining to the affairs of the Association as directed by the President.
  • Act as a liaison between the Communications Committee or may serve as the Communications Committee Chairperson.​

Treasurer shall:

  • Attend all meetings of the Representative Council, Executive Board, and Executive Committee.  
  • Receive all funds belonging to the Association and be responsible for their safekeeping and accounting
  • Pay out such funds upon orders by the President that are approved by the Association.
  • Prepare a written financial report for each regular meeting of the Representative Council and Executive Board.
  • Be responsible for an annual audit of the books of the Association and distribute a summary of this audit to the membership.
  • Submit financial reports to CTA/NEA and other agencies as required by law.​

Elementary Rep shall:

  • Attend Executive Board Meetings and Rep Council Meetings.
  • Provide input to the Exec Board and Rep Council on issues affecting teachers at the Elementary level.
  • Communicate SRTA positions to members and non members.
  • Assist the Exec Board and SRTA with various projects as needed.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Elementary Site Reps and the Executive Board.
  • Serve as a member of TADCom and as a member of the Organizing Committee or appoint a designee.

Middle School Rep shall:

  • Attend Executive Board Meetings and Rep Council Meetings.
  • Provide input to the Exec Board and Rep Council on issues affecting teachers at the Middle School level.
  • Communicate SRTA positions to members and non members.
  • Assist the Exec Board and SRTA with various projects as needed.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Middle School Site Reps and the Executive Board.
  • Serve as a member of TADCom and as a member of the Organizing Committee or appoint a designee.

Senior High Rep shall:

  • Attend Executive Board Meetings and Rep Council Meetings.
  • Provide input to the Exec Board and Rep Council on issues affecting teachers at the High School level.
  • Communicate SRTA positions to members and non members.
  • Assist the Exec Board and SRTA with various projects as needed.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Senior High Site Reps and the Executive Board.
  • Serve as a member of TADCom and as a member of the Organizing Committee or appoint a designee.

Hourly Rep shall:

  • Attend Executive Board Meetings and Rep Council Meetings.
  • Provide input to the Exec Board and Rep Council on issues affecting hourly teachers.
  • Communicate SRTA positions to members and non members
  • Assist the Exec Board and SRTA with various projects as needed.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Hourly Reps and the Executive Board.​

Special Services Rep shall:

  • Attend Executive Board Meetings and Rep Council Meetings.
  • Provide input to the Exec Board and Rep Council on issues affecting the membership in general and Special Education in particular.
  • Assist the Building Rep with elections, meetings, issue clarification, etc. as needed.
  • Get input from Special Ed unit members.
  • Communicate SRTA positions to members and non members.
  • Assist the Exec Board and SRTA with various projects as needed.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Special Services Reps and the Executive Board.
  • Serve as a member of TADCom and as a member of the Organizing Committee or appoint a designee.

State Council Reps (2) shall:

  • Represent the association at the State Council meetings (4 meetings a year).
  • Serve as the liaison between NEA/CTA/SRTA.
  • Conduct NEA/CTA elections.
  • Attend the monthly SCEC meetings and Redwood Service Center Council meetings (4 times a year).
  • Attend Executive Board and Rep Council meetings.​

NEA Representative Assembly Delegates (2) shall:

The NEA Representative Assembly is the largest democratic deliberative assembly in the world. California sends more than 1,000 delegates to the NEA RA each summer. During this annual meeting, CTA members help set policy and chart the direction of NEA business through participation on various committees, constituencies, caucuses, and leadership groups.
